The biblical history of God's physical temple, beginning with Solomon, reveals a pure structure that was never to be tainted in the slightest way, whether through physical damage or neglect of duty.  God's people, His church, is the Temple of God today.  If we defile this temple, we will be destroyed (1 Cor. 3:17).
